High Exam Volume: The Medical Imaging (MI) department conducts over 194,000 exams annually, with volume increasing by 3% every year.
Inefficient Processing: Staff spent excessive time distributing and organizing paper, which led to scheduling delays and privacy risk.
Target Delays: It became increasingly difficult to meet the target of scheduling requisitions within two business days.
Lost Information: Paper requisitions would occasionally go missing without a clear audit trail.
The Solution: A Customized E-Requisition Workflow
Process Fusion (PFI) developed a customized digital application to capture, route, and manage faxed requisitions with intelligent business rules.
Rapid Development: PFI used a Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology to prototype the solution alongside the Mackenzie Health user community.
Intelligent Routing: Requisitions are now digitally routed to the correct team members based on pre-determined rules, ensuring radiologists and schedulers get the specific data they need.
Hybrid Transition: During deployment, PFI created a hybrid process to efficiently convert over 7,000 existing paper records into e-requisitions.
EMR Integration: The system was designed to work seamlessly with Mackenzie Health’s move to a new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
